An Open Letter to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers

Dear Sirs,

I note with interest that on August 18th 2008 you launched a new website at http://EcoDrivingUSA.com. I applaud your basic message that citizens of the United States of America would benefit from finding out more about EcoDriving techniques, and from then implementing such techniques themselves. However I must point out that I strongly object to your apparent attempt to secure the word EcoDriving as your trademark. We have been using that word on our website at https://econnexus.org.uk to promote that very same message for a number of months now. Other web sites have been doing the same for considerably longer. I should be grateful if you would remove the offending symbol from the home page of EcoDrivingUSA.com at your earliest convenience.

The Hokkaido G8 Summit – More Word Games

This week's issue of the Economist magazine contains their verdict on the G8 summit in Japan – They came, they jawed, they failed to conquer.

On the positive side the Japanese hosts managed to get most of the world's greenhouse-gas emitters around a table together. The attendees included the G8, plus the so called G5 which consists of Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa. Also present were Australia, Indonesia and South Korea.

High Fuel Prices – Get Used To It!

The latest edition of New Scientist magazine just landed on my desk. The cover shows a barrel of oil morphed into a bomb and proclaims "Oil Shock – You ain't seen nothing yet". This issue includes three articles about peak oil.

McCain and Obama on High Fuel Prices

Both presidential candidates commented today on the current high fuel prices, although for some strange reason neither of them suggested EcoDriving as part of the solution to the problem!

According to a New York Times report on a meeting in Detroit at which Al Gore formally endorsed Barack Obama for the first time Mr. Obama said:
